I'm new to the forum. I adore moccasins, flip flops, flats, and skate shoes, in that order. One day I got a little curious, and had to see what would happen... It's a little amazing what can happen in not even 20 minutes.
Here's a rubber flip flop and a polyurethane flat.

Got them going with a few drops of kerosene and a lit piece of newspaper.

The flip flop sizzled and the strap started to melt, and the flat started to scrunch up a little.

The flip flop sizzled so much.

This was after a whole two minutes...

After three minutes the flip flop was beyond recognition and the flat was fully engulfed.

Poor flip flop! The rubber sole of the flat seems to have caught fire.

Burn that rubber! 4 minutes.

Back of the flip flop has curled up, the sole of the flat is fully on fire now. 5 minutes.

8 minutes. The fire seems to have slowed.

Look at that rubber go. Part of the flip flop's strap hasn't been burnt.

The toe of the flat has burnt open.

Its funny how the bow is still kinda there.

The back of the flat wanted to keep going for a while.

Poor flat.

13 minutes, the flip flop was pretty well finished. That part of the strap never caught fire, as the rest of the strap melted away from it.

Flaming bits of rubber were melting and dripping off the bottom of the flat, to the bottom of the grill where they burnt.

Poor little flat.

I tried to flip over the flat to see the condition of the rubber on the bottom. There was absolutely NONE left, except for the bit that had dripped off and was still burning in the bottom of the grill. The flat completely flaked apart.

The remanis of the flat. Charred, paper-thin bits of polyurethane ash, and no rubber left at all.

Remains of the flip flop, with a hole burnt right through the middle, and just a tiny bit of the strap left.
Complete burn time: 18 minutes.
