I'm from Hong Kong, and I didn't think that Asian office workers wore high heels at the office or left them at their desks like many do in western countries.. from what I saw, most local women wore low heel or flats to work mostly and didnt' change into high heels at work.. the women who did keep a bunch of high heels at work seemed to be mostly the expat women or the CBCs/ABCs (Asian girls that grew up in the west) that did that. I don't think I saw people do that in China that much, although most of my business there has been in cities like DongGuan, Nanjing, Chengdu, Guangzhou and places like that - maybe the girls do it more in the big cosmopolitan cities like Shanghai and Beijing.
So do lots of Chinese women change into heels at work?

I think that you're right with the changing heels part. Actually some places I've been to if the person has to meet clients a lot they do have few pairs of heels. But I believe the person that owns this thread is more active in China
I've lived briefly in Hong Kong and Shanghai and I have a theory about this since it is important to me to live somewhere there are a lot of women in heels. Competition is the key. I was in Shanghai when China was first opening to capitalism. There were very few rich or even middle class people at least by western standards. If a woman not born to a rich family didn't marry at least into the middle class by the age of 24, even English speaking with a college education she would likely work for about $6000 per year forever. There were lots of beautiful women in heels, even walking around in the street. Wall Street, on the other hand, full of men with decent jobs, you would often find women in bars after work in suits and sneakers... surrounded by investment bankers. Hong Kong, somewhere in between. And that's why I moved to Los Angeles
